Smallmouth Bass fishing with Michigan Fly Fishing Guides is an experience you will remember for the rest of your life!

Our most popular fishing trip for any angler, Smallmouth Bass fishing on the Muskegon River is fun for all ages. We use ultra lite fishing tackle and target the trophy Smallmouth in early spring with crank baits, spinner baits and top water plugs as they move in their spawning beds.

The Muskegon and Manistee River offer excellent Bass fishing during the mid Summer months. Just and early August offer the best in Smallmouth Bass. Northern Pike, Walleye, and Trout are also common at this time of year.

June, July and august yield the largest numbers of fish per boat averaging 25 to 50 Smallmouth Bass per day with soft plastics, spinners and streamers.

August and September are the premier months for fishing both flies and poppers to take more of the trophy Smallmouth Bass this fishery holds. Fishing is done on a wild and remote section of the upper Muskegon or Manistee River and all fishing is catch and release only using barbless hooks. This insures the future of one of our most productive Muskegon River fisheries.

Trophy Smallmouth are very aggressive making for fierce strkes on topwater.
If you have ever fished for Smallmouth bass on the Muskegon River, the Manistee River, or on if you have ever done any Smallmouth bass fishing on the Flatt River, then you likely enjoyed the size of the fish and the amount of fish you could catch. One of the best kept secrets for Michigan Smallmouth Bass fishing is the "the loop" and bass are plentiful and large here. The loop is a remote section of the Muskegon River that has very limited access. The angling pressure is very low, the fishing is great and the scenery is beautiful. Weather in Michigan during late summer is very mild and offers great fly fishing for Smallmouth with great hatches to cast to rising Smallies. Let us coordinate a trip for you today!
Summertime is great for large Smallmouth Bass on light tackle.

Soft plastics, streamers, and rapalas produce big numbers of Smallmouth.

Northern Pike are also common on Smallmouth trips. Pike can be found in the same locations!
